Fussy’s Cute Storage Idea

by Allison Worthington on March 18, 2008

I am a big believer that it doesn’t matter how a job gets done, just get it done. I have a ’special’ homekeeping style. Some would call it messy or disorganized, I call it my life.

Look at my fancy-schmancy furniture and my supa-cute baby boy #4.

Easy_cute_storage_ideas_1

I tried to do a beautiful photo display like Nester. This is the best I could do. You may be wondering where the storage part of this post comes in.

Brace yourselves for the impending messiness…

Neat_storage_ideas_3

The fabric is just a cover over my Target buildable storage cubes! I keep my beloved collection of thrift store/ yard sale fabric, random books, lamp shades and random junk in the cubes. All hidden away!

Because I can’t sew, this is a no sew project. I take my trusty glue gun and some safety pins and simply wrap a huge piece of fabric around the cubes. I drape an extra piece of fabric over the top to cover the top neatly.

Also, I use a piece of cardboard from boxes from our last move as the ‘table top’. This provides a smooth base over the metal cube pattern.

I have the little storage-unit furniture pieces all over the house! One is behind the couch as a table. It holds books and magazines. Under the fabric it holds diapers, wipes, extra baby clothes, and toys. Keeps it all handy in the family room and out of site.

With some cute matchy-matchy fabric, these are great in the kids rooms! Denim or patchwork prints for the boys or cute florals for the girls. It is adorable.

There ya go, Friends of Fussy, this is my favorite easy and inexpensive storage idea!

Love, Fussy

Alli, That’s brilliant. It looks so wonderful. I had to give you a stumble on this one. More people should see this brilliance. :-)
Plus, he is just precious!

you do it so well! I have these same cubes in my kitchen and I thought of trying to cover them and make them look nice, but I thought they would just get dirty too quickly and also it would be a pain if they were covered as they are my pantry.
I have some in my living room as a book shelf and since it’s not super unorganized it looks okay open. I also have pictures on top, but my cardboard is the leftover white stabilizers from my scrapbook page packs!

Wow! I anticipated seeing storage, but I never would have guessed that it was the wire Target store cubes! Brilliant!

Personally I think that’s a great idea. I use those cubes in my closet to organize all my junk. It’s a mess. LOL

Great idea especially since I also don’t sew and I was thinking, “but I don’t sew” until you revealed your secret weapon, the glue gun! :)

Apparently, when we moved are garbage got mixed in with our “garbage”. Hehe oops. I am so glad I found your blog, its great. I am new to blogging but I would love to hear from you. Pretty, Inexpensive & Easy idea for storage & make your own furniture from Fussy!

A handy idea on how to build your own table with storage cubes and then how to cover it with fabric (no sewing involved). It looks great and is inexpensive. Great for everyone, unless you don’t have any clutter around the house. ;)

I’ve seen something similar with glue on Velcro keeping it all in place. My question is how do you keep little hands from lifting the fabric and creating even more chaos. Because I know that wouldn’t make it an hour in my house. LOL

Great idea girl!!! Our house appears very clean and picked up and people comment often about it. BUT…if they looked closer (like this) inside drawers or closets they would see the real us!

Very cute! I wonder- does the cute baby know there are things to throw on the floor inside? Mine would be onto that in seconds, well, about two seconds after they pulled the frames onto their heads.
Then again, my kids are a bit delinquent. . .
