Life Lessons
by Allison Worthington
Here are some of my favorite life lessons, truths and bits o’ advice. These are just the tip of the iceberg. Be sure to add yours in the comment section. Y’all are always so full of great ideas!
Live the Golden Rule.
You know just as much as most people.
Showing up is 90% of life.
Don’t say anything about others that you wouldn’t want them to know you’ve said.
Discipline your children. Inspire them for good.
Don’t get bullied into following political correctness.
Being yourself is always better than pretense.
Call your relatives, tell them you love them, even when you don’t want to.
People’s lives behind closed doors rarely looks like what you think it does.
What you do everyday is way more important than what you do occaisionally.
Follow the 10 commandments.
Never compare yourself to the image others project.
Say positive words ten times more than negative words.
Stop assuming it’s about you, it’s probably not.
Everyone thinks their own kids are smarter, more beautiful, and better behaved than all others.
Do what you are afraid to do.
Don’t make life easy for your children.
Act as if you’ll be successful.
Make a habit out of smiling. It is truly contagious!
Lipstick and sunglasses do wonders.
People live up or down to the expectations you put on them.
What you eat really does matter.
Words can’t be taken back, choose them wisely.
Make your children obey you. Teach them how to curb their selfishness.
Revenge rarely turns out as you planned.
Never speak out of anger or in revenge.
A glass of red wine makes the evenings much better.
Hug your children and your spouse at least three times per day.
Tell your friends and family all the nice things you are thinking about them.
When anyone walks into your presence greet them with a smile.
People are just doing the best they can.
When you know better, you do better.
Everyone craves encouragement and love.
No one really wants your opinion, unless asked.
Supporting others success doesn’t lessen your chances to succeed. Life is not a zero sum game!
Most problems won’t matter next week, next month, next year.
Stuff we think matters normally doesn’t.
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but is sure is handy.
Don’t yell at other drivers in your car. You just ruin your own attitude.
Complaining about things is the sad hobby of life’s losers.
People are not mindreaders. Say what you mean and tell others what you need.
Pull up your big girl panties and put a smile on your face!
or maybe
Now share some of your good news, gratitude and happiness. Be sure to write your name & topic in Mr. Linky’s first line & specific URL in the second. Link back here in your post and use the graphic only if you want to.
I’m not that pushy.
Last week Mr. Linky worked for about 3 hours & borked. ~~fingers crossed~ If he disappears, please leave your link in the comments & I promise I will still visit everyone’s posts.

That is a GREAT list! So good, in fact, I’m printing it out to hang in my office at work!
My “doesn’t suck” post this week is a list of gems from my 3-yr-old. The things that come out of that kid’s mouth – he’s constantly making us laugh!
http://mommyalwayswins.blogspot.com/2008/07/gems-from-three-year-old.html
(Mr Linky doesn’t appear to be participating this morning!)
wow!! some of them are truly unique… I specially liked this “# Lipstick and sunglasses do wonders. ”
Those are some great ones, i am going to print it out and highlight some of my faves like, “People are just doing the best they can. ” and “Don’t make life easy for your children.”
cause everyone does some stupid stuff
One that I tell myself and others all the time is, “Keep it Simple Stupid.” with massive emphasis on the word stupid
Ooooh, life lessons – love yours. Mine would be “Smile more than you frown.” (And I could take this advice myself!)
My post is about Wisconsin dock-jumping.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this list! It’s a print ‘n’ keep, for sure. I had to laugh when I got to sunglasses and lipstick – for years, my mother and I have taken turns looking at each other and saying, “Put on some lipstick, you look dead!”
My contribution:
Be kind. Everyone you meet is a carrying a heavy burden.
xoxo
Great list! Some of them I needed to see today.
WOW, those are the truth aren’t they!
http://ultrabeautyboutique.com/2008/07/31/thankful-thursday-golf-doesnt-suck-as-much-as-i-thought/ And GOLF is the theme of choice for today. OY!
Thank you Fussy for the reminders! I too will print that out and give it to some who need it. (Crediting you of course!)
Mine is simple. Always appreciate the little joyous moments.

Love this post!!
Love the lipstick and sunglasses – and 99% of the list. Your wonderful resilience through your life changes and the move (can’t believe you didn’t miss a beat with posts!)is inspiring.
Great list to be reminded of. Thanks. I am thankful and blessed by my daughter, Grace. I have some fun pictures of her first experience with fireworks, this past weekend. Family and Grace make me happy!

Love the one: don’t make life easy for your children. My parents didn’t for me and I have to direct my revenge somewhere right?
My ‘life doesn’t suck…’ post is about a little suprise for me.
Oh darn Mr. Linky no like you!
Here is my account of the 5.8 Earthquake- which the epicenter 7 miles from my house. Good Times.

LOVE your list. I am a quote junkie too…
If you can’t say something nice about someone, come sit next to me! (kidding!)

You’re brilliant, Fussy. How do you do it with five kids and moving to a new house this week? Off to find my lipstick and sunglasses.
MUAH….xoxoxoxoxox
So it seems as though Mr. Linky didn’t learn the rule that 90% of life is showing up.
http://enthusiastically-ellebee.blogspot.com/2008/07/life-lessons.html
love them, printed them, stuck them to my wall … the only one I would add would be … “remember, eventually things will get better…”
Great rules to live by.
My post happened last night almost without me knowing it. I got a bit personal…don’t be too hard on me!

Excellent list …
These are great. One of my favorite lessons is that happiness is a choice.
Wow.. I so needed that today.. seriously. Thanks for the smile
Good ones — though would they fit on a tshirt?

Love these! What a great set of reminders.
These are great.
In my house, the number one rule to live by is “Never mess with a happy baby!”
Great list Fussy, lots of wisdom… as usual. My post is about the blessing of our 3rd child, it’s his birthday today.
Nice post! The revenge one is SOOOO true. It always sounds like a surefire way to even the score, but it never makes you feel good like you thought it would.
That’s my problem, I don’t have lipstick or big girl panties.
I wonder what my wife would think if I did?
Fantastic!!!! Just like many of your readers the lipstick and sunglasses is definitely a fav or mine. What originally brought me in was the picture. I LUV IT! So unique!
Also, a very nice reminder that revenge rarely turns out as you planned. I tend to write nasty letters then throw them away, after all, what’s a letter really going to do? Bad Guy: “Oh, you are so right, I am a total turd with the IQ of a walnut. I don’t know what I was thinking, here’s your $1250 I stole from you.” Instead I put on my big girl panties and say, “Yeah, I got screwed, but I’m still on God’s and Santa’s good girl list”.
Great words of wisdom, Fussy!
Here’s my post: http://notadiylife.blogspot.com/2008/07/thankful-thursday_31.html
Love this list…..food for thought!
What a great post, Fussy. Everything you’ve written here is so true! Thanks for putting them to words.
Anyway, I’m so thankful for Thursdays. Stop on by my place to find out why!
Thanks everyone and have a great day.
This is a great one. Stumbling, as we speak.
Wonderful post, fussy!
Mine is at:

No blog, but life doesn’t stink this week because:

1) our well is NOT dry, and the pump is not dead–however, the spider that got fried and broke the link between the connectors, IS.
2)I’m expecting dc#6 in late March 09. The girls are hoping for another brother to even things out, the boys have no opinion, and I just want it on time for once.
Hopefully, more good news in the offing!
I’m so glad your difficulties are “over” for now. Snuggle that wee man for us!
Great list! Love that picture!
Great post, love the list and will print out and put on my bulletin board over my desk. I posted earlier this week about why I’m the luckiest woman in the world
http://livinglavidanormal.blogspot.com/2008/07/introducing-luckiest-woman-in-world.html
Fussy, this list is good stuff. I love it all, but the last line is my fave!
So sorry that Mr. Linky was a party pooper; here’s my link:

Have a great day!
Preach it, Sister Fusspants. This was great and amen.

Loved this post!
Good list. Dunno if I’ll ever live up to it, but good nonetheless. : )
LOVE the post. Especially the one about driving. I need to post it in our car for my dh!
Here’s my post:
http://adayinthelife-amy.blogspot.com/2008/07/events-of-last-night-pictorial.html
It’s about what happens when you mix a 4 year old + makeup + no supervision.
There wasn’t one of those where I didn’t find myself nodding my head and thinking “So true, yes, yes, yup.” You get the picture. Wise words.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!
That photo is precious!!!
What a great list! My aunt passed on a few great truisms…a lady always needs a hankerchief…fat looks better with a tan on it…a glue gun can fix a multitude of sins. This is how I was raised…hmmm.
a very sweet coworker of my sister’s – he’s from pakistan and speaks a heavily accented english – once said this, which i loved: “God give you one life. Kick ass!” i try to keep it in mind.
I agree, lipstick and sunglasses do do wonders
Great list, everyone of them worth remembering.
Fabulous advice. Definitely fridge worthy. I’m gonna print that puppy up.
