Let’s Play “Election Crystal Ball”

Obamapalindancingstars

I wonder what will happen next Tuesday, don’t you? Where were you eight years ago? I remember staying up past 2 am watching Tim Russert {*sniff* I miss Tim.} tallying the electoral votes. I fell asleep on the couch, unable to turn off the TV and go to bed. I just knew that there was no way I would wake up and we wouldn’t know who the next president was.

Is anyone else worried this election will make 2000 look like a cake walk? Each side has thousands of attorneys ready to roll, challenging the electoral process. Unless one candidate completely sweeps the country I predict spending most of November wondering who will win.

Obviously, no one knows what will happen next week, but let’s look in our crystal ball. What do we *think* will happen?

My guess? It will be close. I unfortunately predict tons of lawsuits. We will have a winner by Thanksgiving. Of course, I am totally making this up. I have no idea what I am talking about, as usual.

Sound off, Friends of Fussy, what do you think will happen? Who will win? Will we know who won on election day? It’ll be fun to come back and look at what we all said after the election. Now be nice to everyone else. This is my house and I kick out people who don’t play nice.

So look in that Election ‘08 Crystal Ball and tell me what you think will happen next week. We’ll see who had the best electoral psychic abilities

Love, Alli

Alli, I am worried. I grew up with a father who practiced integrity and passed that on to his children. I hope that my children carry on that same traditon, core values of honesty, trust, integrity, just plain decency in all of their life endeavors whether it be personal or business. In the case of this election, I worry that if one side (I have a particular side in mind but never want to offend) does not win the outcry will be unbelievable. I also believe that who we associate with does speak volumes about our personal beliefs. I would no sooner allow myself to associate wtih people of question than I would my children and I certainly think that my president, the president, should have the same accountability. Well, to answer your question, I certainly hope the right man, the best man, wins….and if he does, I do believe the other side will scream and kick and cry and INTERRUPT, as they have during every interview I have ever seen them participate in….very little in the way of manners.

I think Obama will win by a very large margin! (insert SQUEEEE! here) If he gains all of the states where polls lean in his favor, this party is over for McCain and the only way he COULD win is if PA (which Obama has a 7 point lead in currently) suddenly goes to McCain come election day. McCain needs PA to win.

Let’s just say that I think you are pretty close to what will happen, at least in my mind, anyways. I don’t think that the nation will wake up Wednesday knowing who the next president will be.

I think Tuesday is going to make 2000 pale in comparison. I’m really scared half to death because whoever wins, there is going to be such an ugly backlash and we just don’t need that right now with our economy in the shape it’s in. I’ve never seen such hostility and hatred in a lot of the posts and tweets I’ve read and the things I’m seeing on the news. Scary, all scary…makes me want to curl back up in bed until a month from now when all the re-counts, accusations and arguments are over. I’m a lover, not a fighter. :)

Unfortunately, I think it’ll be pretty obvious who wins. We’ll probably know by Wednesday.

I actually think in popular vote it will be close, but in electoral vote it will be a landslide!

Reply

Laurin October 30, 2008 at 11:23 am

Kelly and I talked for an hour this morning about this exact topic. Everyone is worried about backlash, no matter who wins. That’s a little scary. I think Obama is going to win. And I miss Tim Russert. So much!

I think that whoever wins, they will be faced with the fact that about half of the country didn’t vote for them. And if it comes to pass that they have the same controlling party for the House, Senate and President, it does not guarantee that the legislation they propose will automatically pass. Just look at what Clinton didn’t accomplish even with a Democrat controlled legislature.

Annie October 30, 2008 at 11:28 am

I think in the current context, this should be a landslide for Obama – however, for whatever reason the race seems very close – so in answer to your question – I do not know what will happen.
One could hope that whichever the winning and losing sides, that those directly involved, and those in the wider community would rally behind the new President, unite and work together to make things better for everyone. I think most people would agree that Republicans and Democrats alike are struggling across America – and we need a united front to tackle the many issues at hand.
One further comment I will make – it has never ceased to amaze me through the last number of weeks how myopic people on both sides are. How blind they are to the faults of their preferred candidate (and yes, both have them!), but see only what they consider character flaws in the opposite candidate.
Now more than ever it is vital for every voter to think critically about the candidate for whom they vote. Really analyze what’s at stake here – and discern in an educated fashion which of these men fits in terms of bringing solutions to the domestic and foreign issues.
Sadly, I think too many people on both sides, do not do this.

I really don’t know. Eight years ago I was living in England. You would not believe all the comments and remarks I was asked during that fiasco. It was embarrassing.
As for Tuesday… I agree with the first commenter… if one specific side doesn’t win, there will be an outcry and pandemonium. But since it happened in 2000, doesn’t surprise me.
I hope my choice wins, but if he doesn’t, I’ll have to trust that the American People collectively made the right choice. My husband and I are on different sides of the political fence. My son was asking questions this morning about the candidates and why they wanted to “change” America… one candidate in particular and this saddened him. I had to tell him that both candidates wanted change, but change for the better. Both candidates love our country and want what is best — I had to tell him they just disagree about how to get there. And no matter how the vote goes, that person will be my country’s leader.
And one more thing… all about “change” — if you want to “vote for change” don’t forget includes the Legislative Branch, not just the Executive Branch.

I love Tim Russert, he was the greatest. This year will be very different without his commentary.

I think Obama will win. It’s the Democrats turn. (i’m not a fan of either party, so that isn’t hope speaking, just a feeling I have) No matter who wins I hope if it is a large margin victory then hopefully both parties will get on with the business at hand. If it is a small margin victory I expect there will be demands for recounts, but hopefully, barring evidence of outright fraud, the loser will have the grace & dignity not to drag this out like in 2000 and accept his loss.
No matter who wins none of their plans will come to fruition in the forms they are currently saying. We are not electing a dictator. Whoever wins will have to get Congress to make the actual laws and Congress, as we have seen in the past, has it’s own agendas. Some of those promises will come through in a highly modified form probably. But I don’t believe any of it will actually happen in the way the candidates are promising

I must stop laughing at photo!!
Ok I know in my heart who I would like to see win but just like you said we may have an answer by Christmas. The 2000 election taught us that nothing is a sure deal. I just hope and pray that whomever is elected we can pull together as a country and back them. I know that is asking a lot but what other choice do we have?

Oh my, I was trying to forget 2000 and us checking the web at work every 10 minutes for a winner for the week after the elections. I think this is going to be the closest margin in an election. There will not be many votes dividing the winner and the runner up.

I think it will be Obama and I think it will be called by midnight. Right or wrong, people want to take a big step away from Republicans because of W.
Whoever wins is inheriting a mess and I don’t envy him having to sort it out.

I’m so nervous that I can’t bring myself to watch the coverage anymore. I volunteered at the Kids Vote booth at my work, just so I would be distracted until bedtime on election day. Do you think I could get by with wearing ear plugs and a blindfold on the 5th? I don’t know if I can take it!!!

I think it’s pretty apparent that Obama is going to win and win big. I also think that with all the lawyers and election officials watching for voting anomolies that the election will be called early. Probably by 1 am, maybe even earlier. I don’t think it’s going to be close enough to get into a count every vote in Florida 3 times. I also think that all the early voting is showing the problems (like the North Carolina ballot) with individual state ballots early enough to educate the potential voters.

I remember in 2000 Hubs stayed up half the night and drank an entire bottle of wine while listening to the radio coverage (we didn’t have TV at the time). Regretted both in the morning. We’ll probably go to bed early this time and just pray for the best.
I’m voting for Sarah Palin. She’s the only one I really like in all this mess.
My yard sign? “VOTE FOR PEDRO!” Pedro offers you his protection… hee, hee!

Kerry & Gore were SUPPOSE to win according to polls.
The only poll that matters is the voting poll.
The media has not done their job during this election.
I voted yesterday.
I will be glad when it is over. It has been a LONG election cycle.

I think the way things are being reported right now, it looks like a landslide. However, I very much doubt the accuracy of what is being reported. Therefore, I predict a very close count with much screaming and accusing long after the last vote has been counted.
I don’t think America is going to come out looking very good at the end of this.

I’m with Stiletto Mom… I’m a lover, not a fighter, and this whole process has left me squeamish. It has taken me a long time to decide who to vote for, and both sides screaming about their absolute RIGHT-ness and the other side’s WRONG-ness hasn’t helped.
Whoever wins will need our support and our prayers, and he will get mine, even if it doesn’t happen to be who I vote for.
This election has made me frightened for the future of the country, quite frankly. Lot of ugliness going on, when really, most of us want the same things. We need to unite under the new President and move forward. I hope that happens, but realistically, I don’t see how it can, given people’s views thus far. God help us.

I agree with the posters who commented that the media isn’t doing their job and reporting reality. I strongly suspect Obama will win and, while I see many positive things about him, I couldn’t vote for him because of his strongly socialist leanings and his comments regarding the need to change the Constitution to include things the government must DO for citizens. I think the government is already doing too much. (Anyone read Beggars in Spain?) Having said that, I liked the energy he brought to his campaign and feel he might get things done. Unfortunately, I don’t believe in some of the things he wants to do. The truth is, whoever wins will have a “helluva” mess to clean up. I believe things are going to get worse as soon as the election is done, regardless of who wins.

I think you’re right…if the candidates could just put their differences aside and DANCE together, a lot of the ugliness could be avoided. Although, the mental picture of McCain dancing with Biden is not pretty…

Ms. Pants…
I also really miss Tim Russert…he was a decent bi-partisan voice for NBC and they have gone way too far to the left just like fox news is way to far to the right. Sad…I remember watching him write on his little dry erase board FLORIDA FLORIDA FLORIDA when describing what the vote would come down to in 2000.
My last blog was about the Bradley effect and how it may effect this election. It is a non-partisan account and I recommend it to all your readers interested in politics! If the Bradley effect is in play, this may be a lot closer than polls are showing.

I’m pretty sure that the guy I am not voting for is going to win. While I’ll be a little sad I didn’t get my way, I will in no way begrudge the rest of America their victory.:) After all, the democratic process is what makes America great! …no matter which side wins!:) But I’m with you. I have been praying for God’s will in this election. Unfortunately, so many people are blindly following what the left-leaning media wants them to believe, instead of doing research and going with the truth. Is the world going to spin off it’s axis if Obama is elected? No. But the United States will pay a dear price for it’s ignorance.

Hi Fussy! Hi Fussy’s readers!
I’d have to agree that regardless of who wins, they have one helluva mess to clean up. I think that Obama is going to win because Palin has mostly ruined McCain’s campaign and many many people are scared of what will happen should something happen to him and she be in office. BUT I also fear that someone will try and hurt Obama should he be elected…
I will admit to the following: I’m voting on Tuesday not for the President, but for the Vice President because both Obama and McCain have their strengths and weaknesses. I can see that. I would have had a hard time chosing had McCain not picked Palin as his running mate and at least Biden has a clue.
But unless Florida/Ohio/someother random vote heavy state completly screw the pooch again, I think we’ll know by Friday at the latest.

I’m thinking it’ll be easily decided and we’ll know the victor by midnight, pacific time.
I’m disheartened by people who predict more divisiveness for this country. And people who think it would be against God’s will somehow for Obama to win. Is that really what this country has come to? It makes me sad.
While I expect the guy I voted for (early voting! wee!) to win, if for some reason he doesn’t, I don’t think I would hold it against anyone. That wouldn’t be what would be best for our country and at the end of the day, I just want what’s best for our country.

I think Obama will win – I am certainly doing my part to help! Maybe I am overly optimistic (or maybe I took my Zoloft twice this morning?), but I don’t see massive problems this year with voting. I know that here in Florida (yes, insert your own election joke), early voting has generated tremendous turn-out, and the hours have been extended to allow everyone who wants to vote early the opportunity. So far, so good. I am a big dork, and voting makes me cry in a thank-God-for-the-suffragettes way, so I will probably wait and vote on election day – and then watch CNN until my eyes fall out.

Obama will win the electoral votes, it will be close in the popular vote, but Obama will win. However, I don’t think he will take office. He has yet to prove his citizenship and I think that is going to take a big role after the election before he is sworn in.

I have no clue what will happen on Tuesday. I do know it won’t be the same without Tim. I loved Tim. He was my political boyfriend and I *hearted* his wipe board. Tim knew what was going on and wasn’t afraid to explain it to lay-people in terms they could understand and actually find interesting. I miss him every Sunday.
I voted over a month ago via absentee ballot because we knew we’d be in Germany by the time the election rolled around. Dh being in the military we are very concerned about who will win and what will happen to the military. It makes my head hurt to even think about what the next person is going to have to deal with.
