Fight the Frump -Ugly Boot Edition

As my ongoing awareness campaign continues, I am struck by the offensive boots parading around this November -in Nashville for pete's sake! As a favor to Stylish Mommies and Every Man -Welcome to the return of the ugly boots edition of Fight the Frump.

My conscience has led me to protect the identities of the ugly boot offenders with the infamous head of Fussypants.

Really, Who needs boots this big?

Ff4_sweatpants

Oh, The horror of sweatpant tucking!

Christmas_tim_fussy

Now, you will see these monstrosities, and in the name of insanity peer pressure conformity trends, you may be tempted to buy them. The only thing worse would be to buy the generic version at Tar-chay.

"I feel I have to nip what I see as an inevitable trend in the bud: Inform the female public of the consequences before the Ugg boots reclaim their foreseeable comeback in the winter. This fad has thrived for a good four years already and it sickens me. Much like an unanticipated horrible sequel to a B film, the majority of the public doesn't want to see it. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of trendy women out there who embrace and enable Uggs."

I give you the Uggly Ugg.

From Urban Dictionary-

The Definition of Uggs

thumbsup Fight the Frump Ugly Boot Edition 80 up, 29 down thumbsdown Fight the Frump Ugly Boot Edition

fugly winter boots that trendy girls wear because they are simply BRAINWASHED into thinking they look cute when in reality they look stupid…like point and laugh stupid. they are also ridiculously expensive for something that doesn't look that special.

the typical UGG boot wearer is normally a thin white female with long blond hair and, in most cases, a fake tan. they typically wear anything with the Abercrombie & Fitch logo/name and a mini skirt…and uggs. many of these brainwashed homosapiens look EXACTLY the same, so finding them is very easy. they normally gather at the local mall or at a Target store.

Ugg boots are sometimes tucked into pants, normally jeans. in this case, they make the ugg boot wearer look like they have elf feet, or really big feet. Thus, making them look unattractive.

In addition, some young soccer moms have also been noted wearing these boots, resulting in their husbands cheating on them and/or filing for divorce.

Well said!

Stars wear them…Ugh, even Brittney gave them up!

Ff4_ugly_star_fashion

Ads try to make them look all hot & bothered.

Ff4_ugg_sexy_ad

There's plenty of footwear to choose from that's functional without being annoying …

Ff4_nine_west_melba

Oh My, I hear all that yelling, cursing and gnashing of teeth. Some of you do not like my trashing of the precious Ugg, eh? Please send all hate mail to I.Wear.Ugly.Shoes@Fashion.Atrocity.com.

Sound of Friends.  Which boots do you wear all winter? Is there a boot out there that you love that looks hawt when the world is frozen?

I need new winter boots. I have these pink, floral monstrosities that my grandmother bought me a couple years ago. Luckily it doesn’t snow that much here. LOL

Hi Fussy!
LOVE your post – my FAV boots are by Munro. Black. Low heel. Suede. Uncluttered. Look good with pants or skirts. And comfortable enough to walk the entire mall. They’re my “all day” boots and I even wear them at home.

I have to say I love my Uggs. Do I love all their styles? No! I have a plain black pair of uggs that i wear under, repeat under, my jeans. I love them because they keep my feet and legs warm.
I have wide hips and I do my best to buy pants that fall straight from them. My problem is I have tiny tiny ankles and I then get drafts of cold up my leg during winter. It’s just no fun. Uggs are the first boot that fix that problem comfortably!
But oh jeez! Tucking of the sweatpants? Strike me down if I am ever even tempted to do that! I would rather have drafts up my pants!

I also would like to say I have no problem trying to find new fashionable boots. Comfy and affordable are the priority though!

Did you know that CROCS make a cute boot? I am totally giving away a pair of $220 HAWT boots at my blog. They perfect combo of hot and practical. So stinking cute!

I have a pair of tried and true snow boots from Land’s End that I wear to wade through our 1/2 inch of snow dusting we are likely to get here in KY. I must admit, I hate to get my feet wet-so I wear my boots in to work, slide on my real shoes, and go on about my day. My husband hates my snow boots, and calls them my moon boots.

I got my winter books at the boutique known as Target. Cheap(er), practical for the frozen northeast, only to be worn when snow is on the ground. Some shoes just have to be functional above all else. Making snow boots attractive? Impossible.

Amen! Down with UGGS! :-)
I wear my gorgeous, comfy cowboy boots :0) They’re cute, functional and comfy as all get out ;-) Jeans OUT of course.
For dressing up, I have snazzy, but simple brown heeled boots. Desperately dying for black ones but can’t find any that arent’ fugly. ;-(

Oh Fussy, thanks for being the voice of reason in regards to the ever so UGLY UGGS! I kept wondering if I was the only person on earth who felt this way. I just didn’t understand why some size zero movie starlet would pair a spaghetti strap slip dress with a big, bulky pair of uggs.
Love ya!

I don’t wear winter boots. I rarely wear closed toed shoes. I have an aversion to anything that makes me think of cold, snow, wet…
Sorry, I’m no help.

I wear the faux Uggs from Target. LOL I call them “fuggs” and I LOVE them. Mine are tan and like someone else said I wear them under my jeans. I even buy them for my kids. Just got the dark brown version for them for xmas. Ha ha ha!
I definitely don’t fit that profile of your typical Uggs wearer. LOL

You totally made me laugh with this post. Funny thing is I have been bugging my hubby to get me a pair, they look so freakin comfy. Even though, don’t laugh, I live in Cali.
Now you are making me rethinking my obsession and maybe concentrate on getting that new Blackberry. Hmm?

Sorry, gotta agree with Monica. When you’re trudging through 6+ inches of snow… you just gotta be practical! But then again, my snow boots really don’t look like they’re supposed to be stylish. They’re called Sorels and everyone around here owns a pair!
I do actually own a very stylish pair of black boots… however, they are for fall and spring! In the winter we wear our boots. And then we take our boots off at people’s homes and just wear our socks! So makes sure you have nice socks with no holes!

I think you’d just fall over dead here in Scottsdale, AZ where it’s still 90 degrees in the afternoon and yet all the high school girls feet are covered in the UGG boots. Amazing.

To help push the point home – the classic Ugg will make your feet stink and ALWAYS make you look fat. Period. The style lends itself to making your legs look short and stubby. Now, I’ve been a fashion consultant/stylist for a number of years – and have consulted in the thousands of people – NEVER had one say ‘Oh please, make me look short and dumpy!”…so ladies, I beg you – WHY? Why the Ugg and why the Croc?
I am going to Siberia in a month (as in Russia – the coldest place on the planet) – and I will not be wearing the classic Ugg. This is my pick http://zapp.me/z7419324 or this http://zapp.me/z7419323 – there are other Ugg brand options that are so uggggly!
Finally – in favor of Uggs – I love the slippers – wear ‘em every day…but NEVER as shoes!

Ha, ha! Great post! I agree, I hate boots that look like teddy bears or animals eating your legs!

Honey, you live in NASHVILLE. Try a winter in New England without Uggs. I’m sorry, but this particular post is geocentric. In our neck of the woods, we LOVE the UGGS. They are light, warm, you don’t have to wear them with socks, they’re totally comfortable, and when waterproofed correctly, can be worn in slush without getting wet. I love mine. All 3 pairs of them. And I want more. They are on my feet from the first cold spell until I put on my sandals in the summer.
Today, I am wearing sweats tucked into green uggs. I don’t care what you think about it, around here this is STYLE.

Love this! My husband and I like to go to the mall and people watch and one of our favorite games is ugly shoe! the Ugg types always win. We live in Kansas which can get bitterly cold, but that is no reason to dress like a yeddi. Now, when it is snowing like the dickens and like -50 degress, fashion goes out the window, the lovely rubber boots work just fine- but I always take a spare pair of shoes for when I get to my desitnation.

I barely wear socks…I like my tootsies cold…weird, I know.
If we got cold weather in Richmond, I would love those nine west. Maybe I should buy them just to keep the snow away.

I’m not a fan of Uggs either. My daughter just HAD to have a pair, but not me….just don’t like them! I do have a couple of cute pairs of Sporto boots with kick ass soles that are supposed to keep me from falling….

I’m not a fan of Uggs, but when you have snow on the ground (more than the dusting that Nashville gets-I own a house in Clarksville, so I know how much snow that area gets), you NEED warm winter boots with a non skid sole. Uggs are uber popular here in Europe, but I will not be sporting them. It’s so hard to be fashionable and not break your ankles in the winter.

It is not even 7:00am on a Sunday morning, but here I am with a cup of coffee reading blogs when I could be sleeping… I’m glad I’m here because I have literally laughed out loud at this post. Thanks for giving me something to smile about so early on a Sunday morning!

Oh my word. My boots are practically man boots they are so dang practical. But I live in Canada people. When I need to wear boots, I need to wear REAL boots that are good down to like -40 so I don’t give an UGG what they look like. Long as they keep the dogs warm. :^D These are mine (but mine are black) http://www.sorel.com/Product.aspx?top=2&cat=220&prod=24

Don’t sacrifice fashion for comfort and warmth during winter! There are many kinds of chic boots available and your best bet would be to search for them online. A quick search will convince you that you do have alternatives to the “Frankenstein Look”!
