I love the look of chic, classic dresses. I have spent way too much time drooling over the dress selection at Shabby Apple since I saw my friend Tsh mention them.
I have two stunning dresses to wear at Blissdom given graciously by the Shabby Apple company. They have short sleeves and I want to wear something over the dress. Maybe a short jacket, or shaw, shal, shawl? I need your advice! Ack.
Fashion Crisis Numero Onu-
The Martha’s Vineyard wraparound dress
- Remember I need a cover up. Any ideas?
- You know I am still nursing, right? Hello cleavage. How do I hide it? What do I do? Serious cleavage in this dress!
- I think I will wear tall brown boots. What on my legs?
And Jewelry? Pearls! I give birth in pearls, I always have them on!
Look at those CROCS. Yes, those are fancy crocs. Cute, huh?
{Funny story- The crocs company gave me a pair just to try, no strings attached. I said, “Heck YEAH! Wait, um, do you know I bad mouth your company?” Then the Crocs dude was all, “Yes, we know. Just try a pair.” I was all, “I’ll believe when I see it!” Do I like them? In a word: Yes. I like them so much I call them my lickable boots. Rawr!}
Anyhoo, back to the outfit. I have this stunning black dress and lickable boots. And, of course, pearls.
ACK, I need a cute cover up for this dress, too.
Can you help me, my stylish Friends of Fussy?
Love, Alli
PS- Did you hear about the singer who is giving us a private concert at Blissdom? Chris Mann. He is adorable and sounds as good as he looks! Listen here.

I have the Nantucket dress! Have you tried it on yet? I had issues with my nursing mama bosom, too, but I’m a 34DD when not nursing, so go figure. I have a slew of thin, stretchy, plain camisoles I bought in a rainbow of colors at The Limited — I’d wear a brighter color rather than white or nude (or even black) to make it look on purpose, you know? I think they were $10 each. The key is loads of spandex to keep jiggle to a minimum.
And I love tights. I”m sure they’re all on sale now…. A pattern or brighter color might look nice if your dress and boots are plain and dark. Cut off the waistband if you need to!
Ahhh, Chris Mann. Beautiful.
Alli, I like to wear some funky patterned tights when I wear my tall boots. Not an opaque tight, but a tad thicker than a pantyhose, but thinner than a tight.
Not sure what to say about the peep show problem (I’ve got no experience with that, unfortunately – even my breastfeeding boobs were not too outta control.)
I’m with Melissa on the cami idea.
Okay, I have no fashion advice because if you’d ever met me, you would know better than to ask.
However, I’ve gotta’ know, do the Crocs boots feel as comfy as the hideous clogs? They are much more lovely than the clogs. I don’t own a pair of the famed shoe because I think they are atrocious. However, I do slip on my hubby’s to walk the dog from time to time and they are mondo comfortable. Let us know!
Thanks for the Shabby Apple link… I’ll now be dressed appropriately
) {translation: I’ll leave my softies at home & I won’t be the ‘Fight the Frump’ poster child.}
Chris Mann!! Wheeee!!!!
hee hee hee. i can’t really see the colors but a cute little cropped dark denim jacket? It really depends on the dress but cropped jackets are darlin’.
I want your boots! RAWR!!!! I drool over them.
cute patterned tights would be adorable with those sassy, sexy boots! a spanx type cami would be cute and helpful under the peep show. I don’t have the peep show prob anymore
I happen to know that JCPenney had some darling ones, denim and some cute knitted and ‘crocheted’ *think* that would be perfect with that dress or sassy dark jeans. And you will not be holding the baby! I will, until he gets hungry, then well.. this pump is dry baby
MWAH!
I suggest a silk scarf, tied at the neck and tucked in the front of the dress. You’ll be relaxed all day (or night) not worrying about the boobs peeping out. From one of the colors in the scarf, choose a simple, short cardigan sweater with interesting buttoms for extra warmth and covering the arms.
Ok, even though I am EXTREMELY envious of anyone going to Blissdom and I vowed not to help any of you lucky ladies, I will help you because you really don’t have a choice given you are putting it on and all.
I have seen some super cute ones at Kohls.
Ok, for cleavage, you could put a tank under it like this one – https://www.downeastbasics.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=270 — now I don’t suggest wearing the tank over a long sleeved shirt though, that is just silly looking. But I have one like this that I wear under things a lot and you can easily pull it down in front to nurse.
As for a wrap or shawl, that would be great if you can find one you like
Good luck and you will look FABULOUS! Oh, how do I get Crocs to send ME some boots?!?!?
Oh yeah, and for that sweet baby, you need a sassy sling. Something that will compliment your cute dresses. Let me know if you want one
Can you tell us just how comfy those crocs are? Because if they are as comfy as the other crocs AND ALSO cute, it’s a win win! I’m dying for a pair, but only if they are comfy!
Oh my both dresses are adorable! And perfect for nursing…maybe I could get one to match. OK. Maybe not.
LOVE ‘EM!
To cover up, I’d go with The Winkee Cleavage Cover – http://thewinkee.com/
It attaches to your bra but looks like a tank. No bulky layers and should be easy access for nursing. I wear them all the time in the summer to stay modest and cool. Okay, Winkee people, you can thanks me for my free commercial anytime.
As for the shawl, I just did an esty search (http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title&search_query=shawl) and there are oh so many lovely options. Go with one with some color, like a raspberry. Yum!
Great dresses…ummm, I’ll be the shlub in jeans and a blazer because NOTHING FITS ME. Apparently the weight doesn’t just fall off when you give birth in your late 30’s and apparently it took me 5 months to figure this out so I’m just now starting to do something about it. But anywhooo…
He’s a cutie. Talk about lickable. I meant likable.
I’m a fan of the shawl (have several) but find them hard to manage with babes.
I love the black dress with the boots! SPECTACULAR! As for the shawl, no help here I am a scarf/shawl neophyte and my advise counts for NOTHING!
The dude, yes, a cutie indeed. Can you bring him home in a doggie bag? Cute enough to eat!
The dresses? Gorg! A short little sweater would be great with both. You know, those cute crocheted ones with a singe button (if that’s warm enough.) The boots? Definitely lickable. Funny, I never thought of myself as a bootlicker before.
About Chris Mann. For you I will check him out. Nevermind that I just went nuts downloading on iTunes and said I was cut off for at least a month. For you I’ll do it LOL!
Holy Cow, I don’t plan to dress up in a dress, I don’t even own a dress that fits. Will I be ok in slacks?
This might sound weird, but I have a super slim-fitting long sleeve shirt that I wear UNDER things to add sleeves and cleavage-cover. It’s off-white and kind of lacy-ish so it looks like an on-purpose accent. It also has a boat neck (straight horizontal line) which looks fine under any other shaped neckline.
If you found something like that you could “kill two bird with one stone” instead of wearing gobs of layers. I think a shawl or jacket would take away from the nice clean silhouette of the dress (especially since it has that tie/bow thingy in the front).
I also like the scarf idea someone mentioned…
BTW, there are some pics of the undershirt I’m talking about in this post: http://stewardofthegifts.blogspot.com/2009/01/modesty-blog-fashion-show.html
Okay girl…you really have me rolling so if I am rolling in the aisles at BlissDom, well, it is all your fault, ‘k?:) Love the ‘lickable’ boots!
So excited!! So can’t wait to meet you live and in person!!

chemisettes are great to do away with the peep show…especially for nursing moms. they come in tons of styles, colors, fabrics, laces, etc. you just lift it up to nurse, and it keeps you covered without smothering the baby. http://www.chemisettesbyanne.com
