Fight the Frump is my way to stop and remind myself in a fun way to take care of myself. I know sometimes I get caught up in judging myself by an unreachable standard.
Because so much of what we see is altered, this week let’s watch this again-
So remember to take care of yourselves, Friends of Fussypants, we want to Fight the Frump, not try to be pagent queens. {giggles}
I am still trying to work on my “just do one thing” of exercising daily. I’m getting there slowly. By the way, I am the only woman at the gym who works out in pearls?
Everyone on twitter had a hoot when I posted this.
If you have something you love, I say work it!
Have a great weekend y’all. Keep taking care of yourselves. We have to be good to ourselves so we can take care of our families and beyond.
Real quick, share with the world your “one thing” you are doing to care for yourself. C’mon, you can come up with something. Gotta start somewhere, right?
xoxo, alli

I had never seen this video before. I love it. It was truly eye opening. What am I going to do to take care of myself? I will get back to you on that one!
I’ve seen similar videos before – very enlightening! We know this happens but seeing it is powerful.
Working out in pearls is awesome! I take a bath (I read in the tub) nearly every night. I wish there was more, but this is at least the consistent thing that I am in the habit of!

I love this video – reminds me that behind the face is a person.
As for me – I’m trying to moisturize and wear sunscreen every day. I’m also trying to put myself together a little bit more. Nice necklace, undereye concealer and lippy. Not pearls, but a beautiful birthstone pendant I just started wearing again when my wedding ring stopped fitting. I’m 6 and a half months pregnant, and slowly approaching hippo-in-a-tutu status, so I’ll take what I can get!
Since summer break started, I teach, I’ve getting up in the mornings to ride my bike. I don’t do it for the exercise, I do it for the breeze.
Just this morning as I rode, I thought, “I can’t tell the difference between 10 and 48 at this moment.”
Joy!
that is an awesome thought!
What I do to take care of myself…After I got married I gained about 12 lbs. and I knew I needed to get it off… so I signed up for a half marathon to make myself exercise consistently! I am now signed up for a full marathon for the same reason–to give myself a goal and to hold myself accountable for exercising almost daily.
I also try to engage in some sort of hobby type activity on a regular (several times/week) such as knitting or reading.

Wow! I love this! She looks regular like me at the beginning! My one thing lately is exercising, too. — And salon shampoo, ya know, for its health!

What a great idea! I sho do need to fight the frump. I get so overwhelmed these days. Man, I really need to start walking. I must use the force!
I can’t believe you just posted this – I just watched it a few days ago! It’s such an awesome video.
I have to say that taking care of myself is the last thing in my list, it’s everyone else first. One thing… I try to take my medicine daily, does that count?

Hi just stumbled across your blog while meandering through blogland. Thanks for the reminder to take care of ourselves. I loved the title as I always use the word “frump” to describe myself at times.
The video was pretty eye-opening, too.

Welcome to my little online home!
You’re so cute, Ali. LOVE that you work out in pearls – I would expect nothing less of you!
My “something good” is eating better…at least I try!

Great blog! I have a big floral beach cruiser with giant seat, huge whitewalls and old school bell. I ride to the the grocery store and “ring-a-ding” as I pass people taking their stroll or jogging along. It makes me laugh every time!
**(when I say grocery store I mean nail salon – just don’t tell my husband…lol)

I seriously need your help! My sister was born with an innate sense of fashion – I, on the other hand, was not. I’ve asked for her help, but she doesn’t ‘get’ that I don’t ‘get’ fashion! It’s like breathing to her.
Now we have an amazingly lovely 11 year old girl who loves clothes. And shoes. And jewelery. We thrift most of her clothes since she is wearing a ladies 14 and still growing up up up. She likes slightly quirky clothes and I’m o.k. with that. She wants to be fresh, feminine and modest. All good things. She wants my help to ‘put together’ outfits. BIG BIG problem.
I don’t buy fashion magazines because I don’t want her view of women to be distorted – I don’t know which ones are ’safe’ and which ones tell you to starve yourself if you are bigger than a size 4. She is shy and sweet, a firstborn who knows her own mind, but she has some insecurities. She is curvy and well proportioned, with large feet ( ladies 10) and hands – she is lovely. Big blue eyes ,blonde hair and an infectious smile! She is going into 7th grade and wants to find’ a look’ and figure out some outfits that will make her feel good.
So, where do I go for some ‘outfit inspiration’ for my darling girl? How do I teach her something I don’t know? What are the rules?
Guidance please Mrs. Fussypants? Pretty please?
