Fight the Frump: Where are your favorite stores?

fiight the frump horror button 2 Fight the Frump: Where are your favorite stores?

I love handing over the reigns to y’all because y’all are my own personal search engine. Any question I have? *magic* Answers appear, and answers I trust.

I have just finished weaning my youngest. After 11 yrs of being pregnant or nursung, and 5 boys later, we are done. I’ve been exercising (yeah, yeah, I should have been doing it all along) and thinking about ‘getting my groove back’.

With my company growing, I have been shopping. For grown up clothes. Dresses even.  Shocking, right?  I wondered where y’all love to find great clothes. Last night I did a call for favorites-

Now, for me, I am in love with Shabby Apple dresses. Remember they sent me two dresses for Blissdom? They are wraparounds with a full skirt that hits at the knee. Oh so flattering. I love them desperately. Only problem is Mark thinks they are awful. If it was up to him I would dress like hoochiemama, seriously.

I also love just about anything from Ann Taylor Loft, Chicos, Talbots, and at Walmart they have a label called George. I also am a talented Goodwill shopper. I can go in a store, drop off my donation box, and spot a designer outfit in 5 minutes tops. {*alli does a prideful George Jefferson strut around the room*}

My friends on Twitter weighed in with their favorites. Thanks Ladies!

Now, Friends of Fussypants, considering you are part of the smartest, most beautiful, fabulous group of readers on the web (*AHEM* because you are here!) time to share your favorites.

Where do you love to find great clothes?

Oh my goodness. Of course when you asked this I was gone from the computer for the day. :) I know horror of horrors, but every single brand mentioned above I have got from consignment or thrift stores…with the $99 tags still on (but you already know that since you love GW as well. :) Just this week I found a 100% silk Cold water Creek sleeveless light purple dress – gorgeous – and sold retail just this last summer. :) Never worn – $5. :)

My theme turns smilies on automatically! I, too, abuse the smiley emoticon (which is totally a good to do with the written word) and have to go back and delete some because my post turns yellow with all the faces. :) <— see?

Dockers slacks & capris are really flattering pants for me and every time I see them at a Ross store in my size (for only about $10 mind you), I snatch them up! So, I’m a loyal Ross shopper :)

I have never been to Ross. I’ll check it out. Love me some bargains!

I **need** small stores; department store shopping absolutely overwhelms me (and I’m not great at putting outfits together). My favorites are already listed–Ann Taylor and J Jill. Thing is, if you’re patient, and you’re willing to wait it out, you CAN get bargains–50-75% off or more! I got a pair of $129 shoes at AT for $19!! I ’bout died!

I’m not a great GW shopper, either, so I have to wait or go nekkid ;) .

(Found some FABULOUS deals at Marshalls this summer and when I’m REAL lucky, T J Maxx).

You would do great at Goodwill they always have tons of “Size Doesn’t-weigh-a-dadgum-thing” and “Size Weighs-5-lBs-soaking-wet” Just Sayin’.

due to the fact my hubby works for urban corp., I get to LOVE anthropologie. I love it b/c they have well finding, unique clothing. I, also, shop at J. Crew, Nordstrom, and Target (I just bought the cutest shirt dress).

I hear great things about shabby apples, so I must check it out.

I adore GAP and Banana Republic… those are the only stores to have pants that fit me properly. I, too, am a Shabby Apple fanatic ;)

I was just in the States and worshiped at the alter of shopping and praised the trinity of TJMaxx, Marshalls and Ross. Oh, you ladies in the States don’t know how lucky you are. Yes, yes Europe is the mecca of fashion, but have you looked at European chicks? They are skinny and have NO hips (seriously, how do they birth children?) so finding clothes that fit is almost impossible. Tops I have no problems with, but bottoms? Um, no. I was on a mission in the States: find pants!
In Europe, I do like to shop H&M, Peek & Cloppenburg and C&A (I just realized they all have an ‘&’ in them). We also have some great dept stores, but really, pants are an issue.

I have to admit I LOVE Ann Taylor but Target does provide an affordable alternative to trendy clothes.

I have a big but so finding pants that fit well are always an issue.

For non-denim pants I’m in love with Old Navy right now. I have two pairs of pants right now from there that I’m debating on which one to bring to BlogHer with me. I’m still on the search for the great denim fit.

I am a big fan of New York & Company [they give military discount], Gap, and H&M. I can also find some good scores at WalMart and Kohl’s if I search through it all. I occasionally buy things from Target if it fits well but that’s rare now a days.

Macy’s. Abso-friggin-love Macy’s and how you can get things FOR A SONG if you play their sales right. Like this weekend I found a SCORCHER of a dress for BlogHer for peanuts compared to the $100+price tag originally, because they halved it then discounteded it again on the clearance rack, plus offered a discount if you opened up a new card (which I got because of the discount and will pay upon receipt). A pair of $70 business slacks for BlogHer after all was said and done? Less than $10 ($9.75 at register + 25% discount on the bill when I receive it). Friggin’ crazy, right? You should’ve seen the leather jacket I got for $6 for my 9-year-old son for Christmas (originally $80). All fantastic quality clothing, too.

I don’t “DO” hoochie-mama! Thanks, that made me giggle. It’s hard enough just being clean every day, let alone attractive – or, at least, not frightening. Good list of ideas here from all. Maybe some day I’ll put aside my uniform of rags and try them…

Gee, this post was a looong time ago but I hope it’s OK if I chime in. At one time, I think when I was in my earlier 20s (almost 30 now) I swore I would NEVER shop at a place with the word BARN in the title, but then, for some STRANGE reason I stopped by and went into a Dress Barn, and turns out they have AWESOME clothes! One of my little “problems” was that I’ve always worn between an 8 and 10, I know, that’s such a problem, but my mom wears considerably larger clothes that aren’t usually sold in the same stores (talk about a self esteem hit) but the nice thing about Dress Barn is that they sell sized 4-24 all in one store! And it’s not a huge store, sort of boutique-ish so they have plenty of sales reps to help you out. Plus, I got onto their mailing list and they send me coupons ALL the time! I like their clothes for my business casual wardrobe. When I need to stock up and get a bunch of things, I lean toward Kohl’s, especially because hubby likes their men’s clothes so we can both get our shopping done in one trip. Sorry for the long reply. I guess I’m just a Chatty Kathy (even though my name’s Anna.) I hope this helps!

P.S. Do they have a Dress Barn where you live? I didn’t see anyone else mention them.
